For the record, if someone wants to announce their own participation in any activity on whatever proprietary platform, i obviously respect their freedom to do that (even if i think furthering participation in proprietary networks is a bad idea in the bigger picture). But if an event is actually organized *through* these proprietary services, it will rule out the folks who haven't submitted themselves to the proprietor's terms of service. > That said, I would still like to find an alternative to these tools > that is Free Software and can be self hosted, if anyone knows of > anything. http://socialsourcecommons.org/toolbox/show/1458 has some suggestions. i believe that the "hosted" tag indicates that you can't host them yourself (i.e. that they are (possibly gratis) web services, instead of free software). I dunno how to limit the view for "not:hosted" through their web UI, alas. I've cc'ed info@socialsourcecommons.org to see if they have any suggestions. --dkg
