Me again.
Here's another proposal (my SO is definitely *not* coming, but she might still
help, read along):
* To me, the most interesting part of the BSP is (go figure) the bug fixing
part. Something that is usually left behind on traditional bug fixing, (eg,
patches, BTS, etc) is the *process* the developer followed in fixing the bug.
* So, the proposal is to capture that process two-fold:
1. Using script(1) -t, a console capture program (-t captures the timings)
2. Using a wireless headset, so the person being recorded can do a think aloud
type of session and just say what s/he is trying to do at that particular
moment.
The above of course will be completely opt-in. I have a wireless headset I can
bring and other people can bring theirs if we want to have more than one
person recording.
My SO has agreed to curate the above information, make it available on the Web
and to merge audio plus script output into YouTube or similar videos. (She's
doing a PhD on human factors in Software Engineer.)
I think this proposal addresses the following items:
* It provides useful output, this can help other people learn how to fix bugs
* It keeps absolute control on the person being recorded about what they want
to present to the world (ie., they can choose not to contribute the recording
and the script if they felt they are not happy with their performance for
whatever reason).
* it minimizes "collateral exposure" to other people in the BSP (with a head
set, usually the mic won't take conversations further away, although that's
not necessarily so and we might want to leave people recording in a quiet
corner).
What do you think? Do you think you'd like to participate? Do you think the
output would indeed be useful / interesting?
P.
