I recently came back from Siggraph and I also attended The Last Hope.
Both conferences expected the attendees to provide their own
accommodations. That said, New York is a very friendly place for
hackers and suits alike. If you have any contacts in the area expect
to find something.
http://hackerhalfwayhouse.org/ for example.
There are also hotels, though I can't vouch for their cost. There's
one in my neighborhood called Hotel Le Jolie http://www.hotellejolie.com/
But hey, the dollar is at an all time low! America sucks! Take
advantage!

P.S. Le Jolie is NOT IN TIMES SQUARE, it's in Brooklyn.
