Two options I see,
1. Make the relay bot change nicks dynamically to the nick of the user it is representing. This would be easy to implement I think. /nick command can change the nick. In case of collisions we can add _.
2. Make a prosody module (diasp.in is running prosody) that will bridge the channels on the server side.
