I *have* alternative implementations in the environment
on my Debian desktop:
• X (well, XFree86 in MirBSD…)
• evilwm (laptop) / icewm (desktop)
• uxterm
• screen
• mksh
• jupp
• alpine
• openntpd
• inetutils-syslogd (currently)
So, no need for anything systemd-ish.
