Assuming I can coerce grep or awk to do it, the debian/copyright file would wind up being over 20,000 lines long! No-one will ever read it, plus it duplicates information already in the source package. On the other hand, one line for each contributor means less than a dozen lines, which makes far more sense IMHO.
