Er?  Running "dpkg -c" on the xlib6 deb shows shared X libs in the
directory /usr/i486-linuxlibc1/lib.  Maybe you need to add that
directory to /etc/ld.so.conf and run ldconfig after installing the deb,
although I would have expected that to happen automatically.
