I get this. I wonder it doesn't look like this dependency is really important
though. All the libraries are there and netscape-3.01g runs fine.

So I would suggest one of the newer replacements Provide xlib6g. I fear there
may have been some upgrade weirdness if you did that, but 

dpkg: dependency problems prevent configuration of xlib6:
 xlib6 depends on xlib6g (>= 3.3.2.3a-8); however:
  Package xlib6g is not installed.
