Actually, "Copying, distribution, and modification". My understanding
of the details is a bit murky here (especially on how it would play out
in the case of a running executable where use restrictions are
explicitly given up), but as came up a while ago on debian-legal, US
copyright law does actually cover modification, not just distribution.
As for the issue of dynamic linking, it's been discussed too many times
to count, in many places. In the end the only practical conclusion is
that while there is room for argument, if we want to get along with each
other we'll have to accept limitations on dynamic linking.

on-list. I just wanted to point out that modification could
theoretically be restricted.)
