The free market did not select for Microsoft.  Microsoft manipulated
the market to achieve dominance.  Much evidence in support of this
thesis was presented in Judge Jackson's findings of fact.

Is it your contention that there is a monopolist at work in the
environment under discussion?

...which implies that people who support the GR don't.  It is at the
very least impolite to make such assertions about one's opposition on a
political question.

The evidence is against this; the number of non-free packages in Debian
has increased, not decreased, over the past few years.
