Someone's already thought of it (but not done too much work so far from the
looks of it).  See http://sourceforge.net/projects/uni-xml/ for what exists
so far.  There is also xmlprocfs which is what you would expect it to be.
It is at http://xmlprocfs.sourceforge.net/.

It sounds like a good idea to me too, but would require a *lot* of work to
achieve.
