My latest idea is kernel-patch-2.4-whatever to support the necessary 2.4.x
kernels for which there are functional patches available. Then I can produce
a kernel-patch-2.2-whatever package (if patches are available and necessary)
and a kernel-patch-2.5-whatever package when the next series of kernels comes
out.

This keeps the package size managable without having 100 packages, avoids
confusion regarding which package to install, and avoids having new packages
created all the time (a PITA for archive maintainers).
