Synaptic is based on the WINGs toolkit (from Window Maker), but the
core code is written in a way that adding frontends for other toolkits
is straightforward. There are plans on writing a new frontend using Qt
soon.

I guess that possibly even Alfredo understands better than anybody
else that his very own WINGs toolkit is too limited to be used for
serious GUI programming other than for my favourite window manager.
