  I'll have to take a look at your new packages and see what they're doing..
maybe time to ditch HelixCode..
  Now that I'm a little more awake, the logical thing to do would seem to be
a closure that selects the Debian menu or the Gnome menu based on a
configuration item; did you do something like that or something completely
different?

  Yeah, I think that probably you can just leave that in the Configuration
menu -- since the configuration items are dynamically generated, you can never
keep up in the Debian menu system.
