This seems to be nice.  If I understand right gpm and X now use
the same mouse buffer, right?  That would be have additional advantages 
besides solving the problem.

Unfortunately I havn't a device /dev/gpmdata.  The only gpm related
device might be

~> ls -l /dev/gpmctl
 srwxrwxrwx   1 root     root            0 Nov  3 12:23 /dev/gpmctl
 
Currently I use 

~> ls -l /dev/mouse
lrwxrwxrwx   1 root     root            5 Aug 30 12:41 /dev/mouse -> psaux

in /etc/gpm.conf and /etc/X11/XF86Config.  How can I create the
/dev/gpmdata device?
