thanks for your insight(s). i guess i need a newer apt-get, as mine
doesn't
support a -b option (on 2.1-stable). is there work in this 'make
world'ish
direction? if so, i'd be more than glad to donate any spare time (not
that
there is much of it lately :). i know shell scripting, (OO)perl and i
get
around C pretty good (just a little slower than an experienced coder :)

plus, i have a _personal_ interest in seeing this potential realized.

if anyone knows of projects with a similar goal, could you get me in
