how many end-users actually install their own windows systems?

most buy it pre-installed and never have to face the horrors of
installing windows (in my experience, installing windows is much harder
and far more complicated than installing debian - precisely because it
makes too many stupid assumptions and makes it difficult or impossible
to over-ride those assumptions)

installing debian is a fast, pleasant, straight-forward experience. no
hassles, no drama, no anger, no high blood pressure.

installing windows is a tediously long nightmare of frustration and
stupid annoyances which provokes fury and anger and inevitably raises my
blood pressure to dangerously high levels.

i'm not joking - one of the main reasons i like unix/linux is that it
doesn't make me angry. if something goes wrong or doesn't work, then
there is a logical explanation for it and a logical way to resolve the
problem - it's science, not black magic. OTOH i can't seem to ever use
a windows box without becoming angry at it for one reason or another.

given that being in a state of anger is unpleasant, unhealthy and to be
avoided wherever possible, my choice of OS is obvious :)
