Well, that's life. The solution is indeed to get the phone company to offer
cheaper connection to the internet (in Germany, this is happening now!).
I understand you. I am living in Germany, and I pay *lots* of money to
participate in Debian as a developer. Still, if you really need the latest
and greatest, you have to sacrify a bit stability and other stuff.
We can't put the latest stuff in our stable release. That it is expensive
for you and your friend to get it, is a serious, but local problem.
And, there are people who burn you a unstable snapshot for much less than
40 USD.
