OK. My /etc/nsswitch.conf says "hosts: files dns". It still doesn't find
out what nameserver to use from that, though?

I guess it could assume 127.0.0.1 is a name server. That's all I have
in my resolv.conf anyway, since bind forwards for me as necessary.
