My problem is with dpkg-source -x on _ANY_ package.  You might have noticed
that the example I gave was attempting to extract the source for patch
itself!  The new directories and files exist in the patch file, but
patch refuses to create them in the target tree; instead it complains
that the file to be patched does not exist.  This is worthy of MicroSoft!
