My impression is that there's a bug in strip that *sometimes* causes
stripped binaries to segfault.  It just so happens that the current
build of emacs20 is one of those binaries.

This conclusion comes not from thorough testing, but rather from the
general lack of devlopers screaming and yelling about segfault
problems :>
