I think it's very unfortunate most people regard KDE as non-free software. KDE
is free and open source software in every sense of the word, and I think most
people know that - they just treat it as otherwise. Just because Qt isn't open
source, the KDE people shouldn't have their work be for nothing, which is one
reason i think that qt should be in the non-free dir (don't tell me "it's free
enough"), and kde should be in contrib - it's free software, it just depends
on non-free software.
when miguel talked about a binary-compatible qt at the expo, he mentioned the
fact that one of the biggest (besides the obvious amount of enormous manpower
and time required) reasons it wasn't done was because the kde people said if
one existed, they wouldn't use it. this is unfortunate.
but then again, eric raymond can tell you about forking projects ;)
