Or you could also avoid to call deskjet-filter:

gs -sDEVICE=yourdevice -dNOPAUSE -sOutputFile=/dev/lp1 yourfile.ps -c quit

Notice that there are many gs drivers for the DeskJet printers, so you 
could test with more than one: cdeskjet, deskjet, cdj500, dj500, djet500...

If the command above does not work, could you please report the exact
version of gs-aladdin you are using?
