When it breaks network security protocols it does... it's not the
offset, it's that the coding/decoding is inconsistent [I think. I
haven't fully hunted it down, just kept running 7.48 since it actually
*worked*.] It breaks Kerberos V5, not sure about V4. This is a case
where being POSIX is pragmatic, and being "right" just isn't a useful
option...
