no, i did a dnswalk check of novare.net and *ALL* of their nameservers
are CNAMEs.  They *should* be A records.

if you can make a basic mistake like that and ignore the log messages from
named telling you it's wrong then you're bound to make other mistakes as
well.

there are some reasonable DNS checking tools available - look at
http://www.isc.org/ under the Bind pages. I've downloaded some of them
(i'm thinking of packaging at least dnswalk for debian)...unfortunately,
most of them are not cleanly portable, too much system-dependant cruft.

There's one fairly good web/cgi front-end for managing zones.  it looks OK
but is perl4 not perl5....it may be beyond my (minimal) perl hacking
skills to fix but i'll have a go at it.  at worst, i'll just run it a lot
and write a spec to re-write it using PHP.  it could make quite a useful
debian package.
