Use the newest (currently .8, I think).

> 	dpkg --purge --force-remove-essential adpkg

You might first look at /var/lib/dpkg/info/adpkg.files to see what would  
be reemoved, or do a "dpkg --listfiles adpkg" which, IIRC, does the same.

This looks like it would work.
