syslog.conf & sendmail

Would it be possible to have the standard debian syslog.conf log mail
messages to /var/log/mail?

every time sysklogd gets upgraded, i have to hack
/etc/cron.weekly/sysklogd so that my sendmail log file starts getting
rotated again.

if i forget, or fail to notice that sysklogd got updated then my mail.log
file doesn't get rotated, and my log summary script (see below) starts
producing garbage statistics (as opposed to the usual useless statistics
:-)

(i'll try 'chattr +i /etc/cron.weekly/sysklogd', but i'm not sure how dpkg
will handle that next time i upgrade)

I'm not sure if this should be done in sysklogd package, or in the
sendmail package. Probably makes more sense to do it in sendmail.

Why do i want this? my daemon.log gets big enough as it is without all
the sendmail messages...also, the fact that most sendmail log messages are
more than 80 columns makes daemon.log much harder to read. finally, i
want all sendmail, popd and other mail related log messages in one file.

BTW, I also have a slightly hacked for debian version of sm.logger.pl
which summarises the sendmail logs in /var/log/mail.log.0. If anyone
wants a copy, just ask and i'll mail it to you. if there's enough
requests i'll just mail it to debian-devel.
