Bug#4941: can't run xloadimage from xdm/Xsetup file

Package: xloadimage
Version: 4.1-2

I wanted to put some wallpaper on my desktop as soon as xdm started up, so
I added the following line to /etc/X11/xdm/Xsetup:

/usr/X11R6/bin/xloadimage -onroot -quiet /home/ftp/pub/wallpaper/bg_green.gif

When I start xdm, I get the following error in /var/log/xdm-errors:

An internal error (SEGV) has occurred. If you would like to file a bug
report, please send email to jimf@centerline.com
with a description of how you triggered the bug, the output of xloadimage
before the failure, and the following information:

I had no trouble setting up xv to load the same file as wallpaper (but
I'd prefer to use xloadimage, since it's a bit faster). I don't get this
error if I run xloadimage after I've logged in with xdm.
