Bug#2893: forwarded 1.1 installation bugs
Package: boot-floppies
to : debian-changes-request@lists.debian.org

Subject : Several problems encountered installing
beta version of Debian 1.1
DEBIAN 1.1 is now running on my AST Bravo MS P/75 (plug-and-play mainboard).
Thank you for assisting in the solution of the following two major problems !
FIRST - The italian keyboard is not working even if I select either of the
two possible options available in the list, but the U.S. keyboard
remains the effective one still working.
SECOND - The network installation seems not working (I tryed also specifying
'linux ether=10,FCE0h,eth0' at the boot: prompt, but unsuccessfully)
The hardware is 3com model 3C590 Etherlink III PCI adapter, slot 10,
interrupt 10, I/O Base FCE0h and, of course, the network is correctly
working under Windows-3.11.
I reports that during the boot process I read the following :
Loading modules :
Mounting local file systems ...
/sbin/syslogd can't find library 'lib.so.4'
/sbin/klogd can't find library 'lib.so.4'
I veryfied that 'lib.so.5' is present, not so does 'lib.so.4'
As during the boot I've seen the following messages,
SIOCSIFADDR no such device
SIOCSIFNETMASK no such device
SIOCSIFBRDADDR no such device
SIOCADDRT network is unreachable
SIOCADDRT network is unreachable
then, after the boot, I executed '/etc/init.d/network' with the following
results:
(DATE) (TIME) modprobe: can't locate module net-pf-3
(DATE) (TIME) modprobe: can't locate module eth0
Something appears to be lost ... and the relevant list of errors appears...
SIOCSIFADDR no such device
SIOCSIFNETMASK no such device
SIOCSIFBRDADDR no such device
SIOCADDRT network is unreachable
SIOCADDRT network is unreachable
I hope to help the Debian community for the success of the enterprise !
Best whishes, Roberto Giusto
