Hi, in this bits: 1. Ongoing discussion about DebTags 2. Blends metainformation in UDD and potential use in PTS 3. Talks about Blends 4. Sponsoring of Blends packages 5. GSoC projects 6. Blends Metapackages in Wheezy 7. What can you do for the Wheezy user experience right now 1. Ongoing discussion about DebTags ----------------------------------- There is an ongoing discussion on the Blends mailing list about DebTags([1], [2], [3] and [4]) that might deserve some general interest about DebTagging packages. In case the GSoC project (see below) will be accepted we try to work on some better integration of DebTags into the Blends framework. Blends metainformation in UDD and potential use in PTS --------------------------------------------------------- In Bug#703402 it was requested to enable a link to the blends website for packages involved in blends. To solve this the Blends metadata will be imported into UDD (basically done, not yet tested). This in turn enables an easy export as YAML (not yet done) 3. Talks about Blends --------------------- There was a talk about Debian GIS held by Andreas Tille at Chemnitzer Linuxtage[1] (German only). Jonas Smedegaard had a general talk about Debian Pure Blends in general at Distro-recipes in Paris. [1] http://people.debian.org/~tille/talks/201303_chem_gis/ [2] http://www.linux-support.com/cms/jonas-smedegaard-debian-pure-blends-creating-sustainable-hacks/ 4. Sponsoring of Blends packages -------------------------------- After realising that sponsoring in some Blends teams does not work ([1], [2], ...) as it should be I have set up a Wiki page[3] where I describe under what circumstance I will sponsor packages of any Blends scope. 1. Has confirmed to have understood the Blends principle 2. Package is maintained in a VCS used by the Blends team 3. Package is listed on the Blends tasks pages (which is either because the package is inside Debian or in any Blends VCS) 4. Unable to find a Sponsor on the Blends list even after posting there at least twice If these conditions are fullfilled I try to do my best to get the package sponsored. Any other Blends related sponsors joining this effort are welcome for sure. GSoC projects ---------------- There are two GSoC projects offered in the Blends scope: 1. Redesign metapackage creation for Debian Blends 2. Enhancing Debian Blends web sentinel Currently there is one student for each project showing interest. [1] https://wiki.debian.org/SummerOfCode2013/Projects#Redesign_metapackage_creation_for_Debian_Blends [2] https://wiki.debian.org/SummerOfCode2013/Projects#Enhancing_Debian_Blends_web_sentinel 6. Blends Metapackages in Wheezy -------------------------------- All sets of metapackages for Blends targeting at Wheezy arrived in testing: debian-edu: 1.702 debian-gis: 0.0.2 debian-med: 1.13.2 debian-science: 1.0 debichem: 0.0.3 Debian-Jr. is unfortunately not maintained currently so there are no new metapackages for Wheezy. Thanks for all people who worked on the Blends tasks to enable the metapackages reflect the current set of packages inside the Debian pool. Not to forget: thanks to the patience of the release team for their extra effort to accept the metapackages. 7. What can you do for the Wheezy user experience right now ----------------------------------------------------------- For Debian Science and Debian Med I have send detailed information ([1] or [2]) what any user can do to increase the general user experience for Wheezy users of Blends packages. I will not repeat this for other Blends but here is a short summary: 1. Add screenshots 2. Add DebTags 3. Translate package descriptions And for sure every Blend should write at least one paragraph for the release notes. Just do not waste the chance to advertise your work inside the release notes of Wheezy which is perceived by a lot of people all over the world - potential users and developers of your work will be amongst them.
