From the point of view of communication, I see nothing in your mail that
contradicts the public position I've tried to outline in my previous
message. But at the same time it highlights how important will be the
way we communicate about this issue! I'll take good care of sharing on
this list the draft announcements, so that you and everyone else could
comment before we send it out (the fact we are going to do this is not a
news anymore anyhow, so there is no need for particular secrecy here).

However, the aspect of having the AMIs on the mirrors is more delicate.
I personally agree with the principle you've mentioned above: images
should be on the mirrors, but we need someone working on that, as it
won't magically happen per se.

I think two questions are relevant here:

- image proliferation: it is one thing to say we want to mirror one kind
of Debian images, it is a different matter to say that for every
public cloud out there we will do the same. Someone need to step in,
evaluate how many different images we think will be needed in the long
run and do a sort of "impact analysis" on mirror size

- someone needs to work with the mirror people, asking them how do they
feel about mirroring images (depending on the analysis done above),
deciding the work-flow between the image preparation and the mirrors,
  etc.

Unless someone volunteers for the above, we won't advance a bit.

In the meantime, I personally don't think the absence of images from the
mirror networks should block the publishing of images on the relevant
clouds.

So, any takers?
