This issue isn't exactly new, nor are attempts (and commitments) to fix
it. Reasons why previous patches didn't make it into Debian is a
different discussion.

Selected msgs, via Google "WPA site:lists.debian.org/debian-boot"
Early patches, based on still earlier bug reports:

"We'll support it [in squeeze] and we have mostly ready patches for
netcfg to be pushed." From: Otavio Salvador <otavio@debian.org

Bug#550744: Add WPA support to netcfg [updated patch]

Regression for squeeze:
"It would be nice if this could make it into Squeeze, as one of the
distinctive features of the custom installer we (the Debian Eee PC team)
made for Lenny was that you could install over WPA."
