There are > a number of things there that are not strictly necessary, especially the OK, I like that..:-) You know, I follow the dpkg maintainers instructions pretty blindly and it basically works so I didn't really wonder if everything they suggest is necessary or not..:-) If you confirm that the simple change in "checkout/commit" commands is enough, then I really have no objection to the move (indeed, I already had no objection: as said, the need of developers are more important than our needs and we can adapt our methods, even backing up to sending translations as bug reports for those of us who can't cope with new stuff. So, I say: go for it..:-)
