No, that seems stupid to me. Better to tell him how to boot into Single user mode so he can fix the configuration problems or disable the display manager. Why reinstall a system that has nothing fundamentally wrong with it? There is plenty documentation available on how to deal with X problems. And if users want help with that, they can turn to any user list or IRC channel they like. For d-i, we already have insufficient manpower to deal with real d-i related issues and reports to also take on the responsibility for X installation.
