again i have to correct myself: the scripts by frans do need the 
exported DEBIAN_FRONTEND; the GTK test app doesn't unless you want to 
modify the gtkrc script passing thru the script instead of doing it by 
hand with nano.
today has been a hard day at work and it's better i switch off the PC 
right now before i tell some other stupid thing.. :(
