Yes, this is a known issue, it also happened with sarge.  It's a long
story, but the short answer is that it's not easy to avoid this
problem with 2.4.  It should be possible with 2.6 and udev, though.
I'll look into this when we have a working 2.6 image (or a firmware
that can boot the 2.6 image, or whatever the problem is with 2.6 on
Netwinder at the moment...).
