This is in the beginning of the installation process, right?
Try the following:
- boot the installation with parameter "debconf/priority=medium"
- before running the CD detection step:
- switch to VT2
- cd /var/lib/dpkg/info
- nano cdrom-detect.postinst
- add a line "set -x"
- switch back to VT1
- run the CD detection step
- check the results in /var/log/syslog (from VT2 again)
