Comments/Problems:

The install went ok and the machine rebooted fine.

The machine has 9 disks configured as follows:

hda 1 160GB on motherboard primary ide
hdc 1 160GB on motherboard secondary ide
hde 1 160GB on Promise 20269
1 36GB on sda
1 36GB on sdb
4xSATA on 3ware card as sdc

hda and hdc are meant for a raid 1 configuration and data content
sda and sdb are meant for raid 1 configurations, root, swap and tmp partitions

OK after reboot the kernel says fsck failed on /dev/hde1, the only
partition on 160GB PATA connected to the Promise card.
Message is:

fsck.ext3: No such device or address while trying to open /dev/hde1
  Possibly ...
  fsck failed. Please repair manually.
Control-D will exit from this shell and continue system startup.

After continuing, it seems that device /dev/hde can not be accessed by
for example cfdisk. But the module pdc202xx_new is loaded and creating
a file-system went fine in setting up partitions. I also rebooted with
the same sarge snapshot but the 2.6 kernel, which recognizes the
promise card, and verfied that there is a valid ext3 filesystem, so
the 2.4 installer succeeded.

I can provide parts of the installer logs if you like, but don't know
which parts are interesting.

Anders

PS interestingly, rebooting from first session with installer managed
to actually reboot the machine, but once the installed 2.4 kernel was up,
rebooting with 'init 6' didn't manage to actually toggle but stopped
with message "restart..." and I had to toggle the power switch properly.
