The 20050305 build of debian-installer went well and is now available in the debian archive[1]. We also have netinst and businesscard CD images using that build, that seem to be good[2]. All the kernels are in the archive at last, and I know of no other blocking issues that remain. So this is the beginning of a testing period to make sure all the images really work well before we release rc3. A week of testing will probably be time well spent, which gives us the following timeline for the release: 10 Mar debian-installer test build finishes (approximate) test period 17 Mar final deadline for emergency changes for rc3 (optional) begin final debian-installer package build (optional) 19 Mar final debian-installer package build complete (optional) [3] 20 Mar final netinst and businesscard CD builds begin full CD builds 21 Mar final testing 22 Mar web site updates 23 Mar rc3 release I hope that we can test the new images and fill in a large percentage of the release checklist[4]. The more that's filled in the more confidence we can have that rc3 will not have any bad new problems. I'm also updating the errata on the web site for rc3 as more minor problems are discovered. Also, we need to get a release announcement put together for rc3. Perhaps we should just say it fixes a lot of rc2 errata, security holes, and other bugs and leave it at that? -- see shy jo [1] ftp://ftp.debian.org/debian/dists/sid/main/installer-i386/20050305/images/ [2] http://cdimage.debian.org/pub/cdimage-testing/daily/i386/20050309/ (and other arches of course) [3] I expect we can build it faster than before if we need to thanks to some improved prioritisation on the autobuilders.
