Base System Installation Checklist:
[O] = OK, [E] = Error (please elaborate below), [ ] = didn't try it

Initial boot worked: [O]
Configure network HW: [E] <- Problem in tg3.c where tg3_is_sun_570X should return true but doesn't - will report this to the kernel-maintainer of tg3
Config network: [ ]
Detect CD: [E]
Load installer modules: [ ]
Detect hard drives: [ ]
Partition hard drives: [ ]
Create file systems: [ ]
Mount partitions: [ ]
Install base system: [ ]
Install boot loader: [ ]
Reboot: [ ]

Comments/Problems:

d-i fails to find any cdrom or harddisk. This system is IDE-based and
the identical machine works well with a self-compiled 2.4.27 (due to
tg3-hack) and CONFIG_BLK_DEV_ALI15X3=y

modules alim15x3, ide-disk, ide-cd, isofs, generic and cdrom are
loaded - full lsmod on request because I would have to organize a
nullmodem cable or copy manually ;-)

I can't access the IDE-CDROM manually either, /dev/cdroms/ is as empty
as /dev/ide/. But the drive seems to function at least to some extent
because d-i happily boots from it.

I hope I included some of the important information, please inform me
which information is missing

Thank you for your work with debian!
Yours
Matthias Merz
