Yes, indeed, it looks like it would work fine. It's 49K
though... 20K compressed. Is there space left on the initrd?

And by the way, couldn't this utility be used for other purposes? For
example, maybe the packages in the old laptop task could be installed
conditionally if support for them is detected?
