It's common enough in Swedish texts. Sure, it's not in SAOB yet, but
that doesn't really say much.

"Upptäck" is closer to "discover". Like there were some sort of luck
or extraordinary perception involved. I suppose that's why "detektera"
has been introduced in the Swedish language, to get a word without
those connotations.
