no; it is not quite that simple. installing libnewt-utf8-0 removes
libnewt-dev and libnewt0. the libnewt.so symlink has to be re-made by
hand, adn b-f won't compile anyway (probably due to libnewt-dev not
being installed)

installing libnewt-dev and libnewt0 (which removes libnewt-utf8-0)
prevents compiliation also.

but i was able to get it to be quiet about the slang1-utf8 stuff (hollow
victory, it turns out)

so we have boot-floppies that are not compiling anywhere
