well since GNU/Hurd and GNU/Win32 releases are also (so far) specific to
ia32,
i think that advantage would still be important. There's actually the
GNU/Hurd
branch in unstable that requires GRUB to be installed so GRUB users
would yet have more flexibility to try it than other bootloaders' (LILO)
users.

And the floppy images are still diferent for every port, so it doesn't harm
non-i386 archs to have GRUB installed by default.
