2.2.12 Install Report

Hi!

I tried the current boot-floppies.

Becaus the failure of compact still exists (as reported in the previous
mail) I used the 'normal' ones.

I booted with the option 'verbose' to see all questions :-)
and I ran into three problems:

- Initializing Linux-Partitions:
  I selected NOT to be compatible with Kernel 2.0.

  I am quite confused about the superblock-backups mkfs created.

   Filesystem            Size    # of superblock-backups
   /dev/hda5             144M    4
   /dev/hda8             182M    7
   /dev/hda9             463M    5
   /dev/hda10            1.1G    4

  Why are there only 4 backups on a 1.1-Gig partition and 7 on a 182 MB
  partition?

- The already known modprobe error. I copy /etc/modules.conf to
  /target/etc and it was ok.

- Last problem: 'Make Linux bootable from HD'

  LILO installation:

  First: My hard disk layout

Disk /dev/hda: 255 heads, 63 sectors, 523 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 bytes

   Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System
/dev/hda1   *         1       125   1004031    7  HPFS/NTFS (WinNT Server)
/dev/hda2           126       523   3196935    5  Extended
/dev/hda5   *       126       144    152586   83  Linux
/dev/hda6           145       275   1052226    6  FAT16 (Data-Partition)
/dev/hda7           276       291    128488+  82  Linux swap
/dev/hda8           292       315    192748+  83  Linux
/dev/hda9           316       376    489951   83  Linux
/dev/hda10          377       523   1180746   83  Linux

/dev/hda5 on / type ext2 (rw,errors=remount-ro,errors=remount-ro)
proc on /proc type proc (rw)
devpts on /dev/pts type devpts (rw,gid=5,mode=620)
/dev/hda8 on /var type ext2 (rw)
/dev/hda9 on /home type ext2 (rw)
/dev/hda10 on /usr type ext2 (rw)

I use the WinNT Bootloader for system startup, so I wanted to install Lilo
in the root-partition.
I selectet /dev/hda5 to install LILO in /target/ bootsector.
OK so far.

Next screen insists to install LILO to /dev/hda2 (the extended partition)
because hda5 is a logiacal partition.

If I try this Linux doesn't boot.

I had to edit  /target/etc/linux.conf.
in my case it must be
boot=/dev/hda5
root=/dev/hda5

this will work. Why dows the setup insist on installing in into the
extendet partition?
