Well, there seem to be several different issues mixed up in your message.
Building, operating and using a cluster requires several different types
of activity and phases of learning, let me point them out.

1) Assembling the hardware and making it operate in a stable manner.

2) Installing and configuring the operational system on each machine.

3) Configuring the network and clustering (integrating) the machines.

4) Configuring this cluster so that both its use and its administration
   are easy even with multiple users submitting multiple tasks to it.

5) Doing parallel programming and using the PVM and/or MPI message passing
   interfaces within either C or Fortran.

You may have to do all these things, problably more or less in this order,
so you have a long way to go. Where would you like to start?
