It does. I finally ended up with this:

dpkg: regarding .../python_2.3.5-10bpo1_all.deb containing python:
 python conflicts with python2.4 (<< 2.4.3-7)
python2.4 (version 2.4.1-2) is installed.

So I guess I'll just revert the switch to the new python policy in the
source package of python-pysqlite2.
