I can not decide on your behalf but I admit I also packaged software
(with good reputation) for Debian Med depite I had no idea about the
underlying technique and I also "inherited" packages from developers
becoming MIA with the same features. I had quite good experiences when
doing this since in the end I've got technical help when I was struck
with details I was not able to deal with.
So *if* your time permits and splash might come on top of your todo list
I would encourage you to package it and hope it works in a similar way
as my experience tells me.
