Multistrap, just provides an unconfigured rootfs, then integrator or
developer is responsible for configuring and setting up its rootfs,
i.e., you can use qemu trick to run postinst scripts, you also might
want an fstab, network interfaces file, set hostname, addusers and
passwords, setup keyboard layout, timezone, tweak inittab and create
device nodes if you are not already using udev, ...
All good fun! :-)
Actually, there is people trying to approach this config steps with
polystrap, but it is unfinished tool at debian git repositories.
Hopefully soon will be able to debootstrap from main archive and have
a working debian-installer initrd.
