yeah I think in initramfs or really early on, udev starts up and tries to mount ??? or get access to the passwd DB, but ldap hasn't started. 
Turn on all sorts of debugging, (in PAM/NSS) and find out
exactly what names / UIDs the PC tries to look up.
Make sure those exists in /etc/passwd. After that, the system shouldn't
need to consult ldap at all during bootup. Not until ordinary
users (presumably found in ldap) start logging in.
